Admission Procedure

Application for admission on the prescribed form, appended to the Prospectus, should be submitted to the college office after the declaration of the result of the previous class or as per the Schedule. No Form will be accepted after the date specified. Incomplete forms will not be considered.
Students should follow the following guidelines while filling up the admission forms.

  1. The form must be filled up in the student’s own handwriting.
  2. Every candidate must write the name of her mother alongwith the name of father in the stipulated column.
  3. The spellings of the name of self, father and mother must be the same as recorded n the certificate/ D.M.C.of the matriculation / previous examination passed.
  4. Date of Birth must be recorded properly with due proof. (i.e. the matriculation certificate)
  5. If the Registration Number has been issued by P.U. Chandigarh, it must be filled in the stipulate column.
  6. Affix two passport size photographs at the specified places and enclose one along with the form with your name, class to which admission is being sought.
  7. Attested copies of the certificate/ Provisional- certificate of the last examination passed/DMC and Character certificate from the Head of the institution last attended are required with the admission form.
  8. For students belonging to the Scheduled Caste/Tribe or Backward Class, attested copy of the certificate issued by the competent authority to this effect is required.
  9. Migration Certificate in case the candidate is coming from other universities Boards/ Councils.
  10. Admission is on the basis of merit. The college reserves the right to refuse admission to any applicant without giving any reason.
  11. The applicants whose result is declared late may seek admission without late fee within ten days of the date on which the result is declared.
  12. All admissions to the college are provisional and subject to approval by Panjab University, Chandigarh. The college shall not be responsible if the admission is not approved by the university and claims for refund of dues on any account, except securities, will not be entertained.
  13. Candidate whose career reflects a gap of one year or more between passing of the last examination and the admission being sought by them are requ red to furnish, at the time of application, an application to this effect that they were not involved in any offence/unlawful activity during the gap.
  14. If a student is found ineligible at any stage her admission shall be cancelled and she will cease to remain a bonafide student of the college. Refund of any type except for the securities will not be admissible to her, as per the rules.
  15. Admission of Candidates with compartment
  1. Compartment candidates from other universities:- A student of any other unversity who is placed in compartment in B.A/B.Com. I/I year will not be allowed to join the 2nd year/3rd year course.
  2. Compartment candidates of +2 Examination for admission to B.A.(Gen.) 1 year class: A candidate who has been placed under compartment in the +2 examination on conducted by a Board/Body/ Council / University in India shall be eligible to seek admission to the B.A. (General) Course provided she fulfils the following conditions:
  1. She should have been placed under compartment in one subject only.
  2. She should have obtained at least 20% in the subject of compartment and requisite percentage of marks in the aggregate of the examination as per the regulation i.e.
  1. Candidate joining the B.A I year should have obtained at least 33% marks in the aggregate of all the subjects, including the subject of compartment, Theory and Practicals taken together at +2 exam.
  2. The students with compartment in +2 Class with less than 20% marks be also allowed to be admitted provisonally provided they have obtained 20% or above marks in the Supplementary examination upto the last date for submission of examination form without late fee for confirmation of their admission.

Migration Rules

  1. Candidates from other colleges affiliated to the Panjab University can be migrated by seeking prior permission of the two Principals after obtaining a college leaving certificate from the previous college.
  2. For migration to this college from a college affiliated to other universities, a student should submit the following certificates along with the application
  3. form:-
    a)A migration certificate from the University concerned
    b)The lower examination passed certificate.

  4. Migration will not be permitted if the combination of subjects offered by the student does not tally with the combination alowed in this college
  5. Mid-term migration from any other university is not permitted.
  6. When the migration of a student has been allowed, she must join the college within 15 days, otherwise the migration shall be considered as cancelled.

Rules for withdrawal

  1. A student who wishes to leave the college must apply in writing to the Principal and application must be countersigned by her father or guardian. No student will be permitted to leave the college until she has cleared her college dues.
  2. A student has to pay the college fee and all other dues until her name is formally withdrawn.
  3. Fee and other dues once paid shall not be refunded

B.A. GENERAL

  1. The B.A. (General) Programme of Study will carry a total of 24 credits, each credit having an equivalent of 100 marks.
  2. Admission to B.A. Part 1 class shall be open to the girls who have passed.
  3. (a)Senior Secondary Part II (10+2) Examination of PSEB, or
    (b)Any other examination recognised by Panjab University as equ valent to the examination vide (a) above.

  4. B.A. (General) 1st : Study programme will consist of two compulsory and three elective subjects.

    ENVIRONMENT EDUCATION

  9. This is a compulsory qualifying Paper which the student has to study in B.A. 1st year. The students are required to qualify this paper once in 1st, 2nd or 3rd year of examination.

NOTES:-

  1. For B.A./B.Sc./B.com., “History & culture of Punjab ” is allowed as an option in lieu of Punjabi (Compulsory) to the following categories of students:
    (i)Students who have been out of Punjab for the last 10 years.
    (ii)Students who are not domicile of Punjab and have not studied Punjabi upto 10th i.e. Matriculation
    (iii Wards of Defence Personnel and Central Govt.
    Employees.
    (iv) Foreigners.

  2. Passing +2 Without English: The candidates who have passed +2 Examination without English from any recognised Board/ Body / Council / University are eligible to join B.A. 1st year, if they fulfil other requirements such as minimum percentage of marks.
  3. Passing +2 from Open School: Students who have passed +2 examination from any recognised open school are eligible for admission to B.A. / B.Com 1st year course only if they are shown as “Pass” in their certificates and fulfil the requisite percentage criteria as per university regulations.

B.A. II & III

  1. Admission to B.A. II / B.A. III classes shall be open to a student who has passed B.A. I and B.A. II Examination respectively of Panjab University from the college or any other examination recognised by the Panjab University as equivalent to its B.A. I & B.A. II year Examinations respectively.
  2. Subjects for B.A. II and B.A. III classes: The subject combination in B.A. II & B.A. III will be the same as offered by the student in her qualifying examination. No other combination shall be allowed under any condition.
  3. Migration, if any, shall be allowed as per the Panjab University rules and subject to the approval of the university.

B.A. HONOURS (ENGLISH)

In addition to the three elective subjects, a student may offer in the Second and Third Year Honours in anyone of the three elective subjects taken up by him in the First Year, provided that she has obtained at least 50% marks in the subject of Honours in the First Year of the B.A. (General) Course. College offers B.A. Honours to the students who have opted Elective English in B.A.-I.

B. COM. / B. COM. (HONS)

Admission to the B.Com Course in the college will be made on the basis of merit. A candidate who has secured at least 50% marks in the aggregate of B.Com. First year exam nation shall be eligible to offer Honours n B.Com. course.

B.C.A.

Admission to the B.C.A. Part I in the college will be made on the basis of merit.

  1. A candidate who has passed the +2 exam nation in any discipline with at least 50% marks and passed Mathematics as one of the sub ects at Matriculation examination level shall be eligible to join the first year class of B.C.A. Course.
  2. A candidate who has been placed under compartment in the +2 examinaton is not eligible for seeking admiss on to this course.

M.A.(ENGLISH & ECONOMICS

The PG course (M.A) in English is a two_year degree course.There will be four semesters in two years with four papers in each semester.Each of these papers will carry 100 marks,of which 20 marks will be of internal assessment and 80 marks for the end examination to be held in December(Semester I&III) and April(Semester II&IV). Semester-Wise detail of paper is given below:

Change of Subjects

Students are permitted to change their subjects within ten days from the commencement of classes

  1. A student should select the combination of subjects carefully. No overwriting will be accepted.
  2. If the number of students offering a permissible combination is less than 10, the Principal reserves the right to ask the students to change the combination.
  3. Practical subject fee will not be adjusted or refunded in case of subject change.

Examinations

  1. Eligibiity
    1. A student who has been on the rolls of the college throughout the academic year preceding the examination.
    2. Her name is submitted by the Princ pal of the college / school, she has most recently attended and producec the following certificates signed by the Principal.
    3. (i)having attended not less than 75% of the full course of Lectures and Practicals arranged for her class in each of the subjects offered (to be counted up to the last date when the classes break up for the preparatory hoidays)
      (ii)that she bears a good moral character and her work has been satisfactory.
      (iii)that she obtains at least 25% marks in aggregate of two House tests (Sept. & Dec.)

    4. Assessment will be sent on the basis of tests held in Sept./ Oct. & Dec./ Jan.
  2. ADMISSION FORMS TO THE UNIVERSITY:
  3. The annual examination will be conducted by the Panjab University, Chandigarh in April 2013. Admission form of a student shall be sent for the university examination if she fulfills the conditions vide para 1 above.
    NOTE:-
    College may hold a special test for the students who fail to fulfil the conditions as per details above. A Student shall be required to obtain minimum 30% marks in aggregate by appearing in all the subjects to become eligible for submitting her admission form to the university.

  4. Pass Criteria:
    1. A student shall be deemed to have passed the examination if she gets atleast 35% marks individually in two compulsory languages and three elective subjects.
    2. For subject involving practical work, a candidate must obtain at least 35% marks in theory and practical separately. Grading will consist of
    3. (i)First Division 60% or more of the aggregate marks.
      (ii)Second Division 50% or more but less than 60%.
      (iii)Third Division Below 50%.

    4. If candidate has offered an additional subject alongwith three elective subjects from the same group, the marks obtained in three best elective subjects will be counted while dec aring the result.
    5. Any electve subject if offered as additional subject can substitute for another elective if the candidate fails in one of the main electives offered but passes in the additional.
    6. For P.G.D.C.A.,to qualify
    7. (i)Minimum 40% marks Theory, Internal Assessment and Practicals separately.
      (ii)50% marks in Project work, and
      (iii)50% marks in aggregate.

  5. ELIGIBILITY FOR COMPARTMENT:
  6. A candidate failing in anyone compulsory language or an elective subject will be eligible for the compartment examnation. She will be declared to have passed the examination on clearing the subject. Candidates will be allowed two consecutive chances to pass the compartment examination. A candidate who does not appear in one or both such chances shall be considered to have failed and required to re-appear in all the subjects at any subsequent examination of the Board University as per the current syl abus and courses laid down.

  7. HOUSE EXAMINATION RULES:
    1. Two terminal examinations shall be held in the months of September/October and December/ January. There will be lO% weightage of marks in the annua examination of Panjab Un versity on the basis of House Examinations as under:
    2. i)40% of September/October Examination.
      ii)60% of December/January Examination.

    3. Absence from examination for whatever reason means a nil result.
    4. Permission to be absent from the examination for valid reasons must be sought before -hand
    5. Absence/failure in the test may disqualify a student from appearng as a regular college student in the university examination.
    6. Students who indulge in unfair means and dishonesty in the house examination shall be severely dealt with and may even be expelled from the college.
    7. A special test may be held in the month of February at the discretion of the Principal and the student shall qualify in the special test if she obtains minimum 30% marks in the aggregate by appearing in all subjects. Permission to appear in the specia test may be given:

    (i) If a student falls seriously ill during the examination and a medical certificate from a qualified doctor is furnished within ten days of the date of the absence from the examination.
    (ii) those participating in National Tournaments/ University matches/other events if detailed by the college. Application duly signed by the lecturer incharge to be submitted.
    NOTES:

    1. In practical subjects, a student, must obtain at least 25% marks in theory and practical examination separately.
    2. Students have to fulfil the minimum lecture attendance requirement and minimum percentage failing which they will have to appear in the capacity of a private candidate.
    3. Illness does not entitle a student to get her lecture shortage condoned.
